Before You Begin
How are you feeling right now?
No right answer. Just notice where you are.
Step One
Come Home to Your Body
Dates can leave us buzzing, deflated, giddy, content or somewhere in between. Before you do anything else, breathe.
Ready when you are
press begin to start
"Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."
Psalm 116:7 · NABRE
Step Two
What Is Your Body Saying?
Your nervous system noticed things your mind hasn't caught up to yet. Let's listen.
Chest
Open and warm? Tight or guarded? Light as a feather?
Stomach
Settled and calm? Still a little fluttery? Heavy or unsettled?
Shoulders
Dropped and released? Still carrying some tension from earlier?
Jaw
Relaxed and easy? Clenched? Still holding a smile?
Hands
Open and at rest? Restless, fidgety, wanting to reach for your phone?
Energy
Energized and buzzing? Drained and done? Quietly content?
Whatever you're noticing is welcome here. Your body is not a problem to solve. Honor what it's telling you.
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?"
1 Corinthians 6:19 · NABRE
Step Three
Three Questions Worth Sitting With
Not to judge, not to overthink it. Just to notice what happened tonight and to bring it to God.
Question One
What did I learn about him?
- What did he seem to value? What lit him up?
- Did he listen as well as he talked?
- Was there a moment that surprised you, for better or for different?
- How did he treat others around you, the server, a stranger, a friend?
Question Two
What did I learn about myself?
- When did you feel most like yourself? When did you shrink a little?
- What did you find yourself hoping for mid-date?
- Was there a moment you noticed a fear or an old story show up?
- What do you know now that you didn't before you walked in?
Question Three
What did I learn about God?
- Was there a moment that felt like a quiet gift, something small and holy?
- Did anything reveal more about what you're made for?
- What might God be tenderly showing you through this?
- Is there an invitation here, even if it's not the invitation you expected?
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely."
Proverbs 3:5 · NABRE
Step Four
A Prayer of Gratitude and Surrender
You're allowed to bring it to God. He wants to be a part of this part of your life.
Lord,
thank you for tonight.
For the courage it took to show up,
for the grace that carried me through every awkward pause and every easy laugh.
Thank you for the gift of love itself,
for the part of me that still believes it's possible
and keeps saying yes to the adventure of it.
I bring you everything I noticed tonight,
the hope, the questions, the uncertainty, the warmth, the confusion.
I don't need to resolve it all right now.
I trust that you see clearly what I cannot yet see.
If this is a door you are opening, give me the courage to walk through it freely.
If this is a relationship that is not meant to last, give me the peace to receive it as that.
Guard my heart. Form it toward yours.
Help me to want what is truly good, not just what feels good in the moment.
I surrender the outcome to you,
and I choose to rest in the truth that you are writing something beautiful
even when I don't know the ending.
You are a good God. I am your beloved daughter.
That is enough for tonight.
Thank you, Jesus.
Amen
"Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you."

Step Five
Sundae Truths
Close with these. Let them settle in your chest before you sleep.
-
◆
I showed up tonight. That was courageous.
-
◆
It's going to be okay. Whatever tonight was, it's not the whole story.
-
◆
I'm not behind. My story is unfolding exactly as it should.
-
◆
Whatever I'm feeling right now is okay. My emotions are information, not a verdict.
-
◆
I'm learning. And that means I'm growing.
-
◆
I am exactly where I'm supposed to be. Tonight included.
After Your Reflection
How are you feeling now?
Notice any shift. God meets us in the noticing.
If you haven't rated yourself at the top yet, scroll up and do that first.
